LSU Theatre Ranked No. 2 in the Country Among Public Universities

The LSU School of Theatre was named as the No. 2 Theatre Bachelor of Arts program among public universities in the United States in the prestigious OnStage Blog’s “Top 25 B.A. Theatre Programs for 2018-19.” This recognition comes after the School of Theatre welcomed its largest class in its history this year.

Top Tier for Best National Universities

LSU is ranked in the top tier for “Best National Universities” for the 11th-straight year and is the only public university in Louisiana ranked in the top tier this year.

Renovated and Expanded Patrick F. Taylor Hall

In spring 2018, LSU cut the ribbon on newly renovated and expanded Patrick F. Taylor Hall – the largest academic building in Louisiana and largest free-standing engineering building in the nation.

No. 1 Landscape Architecture Program 

The undergraduate and graduate programs at the LSU Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture, or RRSLA, have once again received top rankings from DesignIntelligence magazine, the leading journal of design professionals. The 2018–19 issue of “America’s Best Architecture & Design Schools” ranked LSU’s undergraduate program as number one in the nation and the graduate program as number five in the nation.

LSU Law Ranked #8 Best Value Law School in Nation

The LSU Law Center has been ranked the #8 Best Value Law School in the nation in the 2015 rankings released by The National Jurist magazine. LSU Law is the only Louisiana law school, public or private, included in the rankings.

Center for Academic Success Designated a Center of Excellence  

The Center for Academic Success, or CAS, LSU’s nationally acclaimed learning center, has garnered another national award. The National College Learning Center Association, or NCLCA, designated the CAS as one of only two Learning Centers of Excellence in the country. This esteemed organization, which represents more than 1,500 learning centers, supports higher education learning centers through professional development, certifications, standard-setting and awards.

The Center for Academic Success’ Supplemental Instruction (SI) program received International Center for Supplemental Instruction accreditation. LSU’s CAS SI program is one of five state university programs in the country with the three-year certification.

 

In the seventh annual Game Design School Rankings by Animation Career Review, LSU’s program numbered among the very best across a variety of categories.

Out of 144 schools considered, the LSU College of Engineering’s Digital Media Arts & Engineering program was ranked:

  • No. 1 in Louisiana
  • No. 9 in the South
  • No. 21 nationally among schools offering a Master of Science or Master of Arts in Game Design
  • No. 22 nationally among public schools and colleges
  • No. 46 nationally among all programs

Rankings are based on academic reputation, admission selectivity, depth and breadth of the program, value as it relates to tuition and indebtedness, geographic location, and for the first time in 2019, employment data.

LSU programs ranked in U.S. News Graduate School Rankings. Flores MBA program ranked 36 among public universities. 

The Animation Career Review 2019 Graphic Design School Rankings, published in February 2019, ranked the LSU graphic design program first in the state, and highly nationally. The Animation Career Review, which provides public information on schools offering animation and graphic design education, considered over 700 schools with graphic design programs in preparing this year’s rankings. The Fall 2018 production of Eugene Onegin at the Turner-Fischer Center for Opera won first place in Division II of the NOA Scenes competition in January. This follows several other recent accolades for shows such as Dog Days and The Cunning Little Vixen,which won first place in Division VII and second place in Division VIII of the NOA Production competition, respectively. These competitions compare productions from multiple collegiate programs of comparable sizes and budgets, and evaluate them on musicianship, singing attributes, production concept, execution, and overall quality.

ForensicsColleges.com, an on-line resource specializing in forensic accounting programs across the country, has recognized the Master of Accountancy degree program in the E. J. Ourso College of Business’ Department of Accounting for excellence in combating securities and commodities fraud. Professor Larry Crumbley was also recognized as an expert in the field.

The LSU Online MS in construction management is ranked as a top-10 program among public colleges in U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 Best Online Programs. The program is ranked 12th overall in the newly released rankings. In addition, the LSU Online Flores MBA Program is ranked 51st among public colleges and universities and 66th overall, maintaining a top 20 percent ranking among online MBA programs.

LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing is ranked 10th among all nursing schools in the United States and fourth among public nursing schools, according to the Nursing Schools Almanac. The almanac’s research team collected data on more than 3,200 nursing schools and campuses throughout the United States, evaluating each school based on its academic prestige, depth of programs and student success rates after graduating.

Two recent opera productions at the Turner-Fischer Center for Opera at LSU have received high honors from the National Opera Association, or NOA, as they announced the winners of the annual NOA Collegiate Opera Production Competition this week.

 LSU is the highest ranked Louisiana university and is in the top half of the SEC in the Washington Monthly 2018 College Guide and Rankings. Among peer public universities, LSU is ranked 90th and 30th among flagship universities nationwide.

The LSU Center for Internal Auditing is consistently ranked as one of the world's best programs.

LSU has one of the oldest opera programs in the nation, established in 1931. It has produced opera stars at the Metropolitan Opera, the Lyric Opera and more.

The E. J. Ourso College of Business was ranked among the nation's best business schools in 2017 by U.S. News & World Report.

LSU is rated as a top 50 best value among public universities and 88th overall in Forbes 2018 America’s Best Value Colleges rankings.

LSU is the highest rated university in Louisiana on the list and the 44th best value among public universities in the nation, according to Forbes. Among SEC peers, LSU is the fifth best value ahead of Auburn University, University of Alabama, University of Kentucky, University of Mississippi and University of Missouri, among others.

LSU's online graduate engineering programs are ranked 16th in the nation, according to ratings released by U.S. News & World Report.

In U.S. News & World Report’s 2018 Best Online Programs ranking, both the LSU Online MS in construction management and LSU Online Flores MBA Program are highly ranked.

The LSU Online MS in construction management is ranked 12th among public colleges and universities and 16th overall. LSU Online Flores MBA Program is ranked 41st among public colleges and universities and 51st overall.

71% of veterinarians licensed to practice in Louisiana are LSU SVM graduates.

Louisiana State University received the 2017 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.

LSU landscape architecture alumni, faculty, and students will receive top honors at the 2016 ASLA Annual Meeting & EXPO in New Orleans this October, including three medals, seven professional awards, and three student awards. On top of these honors, two landscape architecture faculty, Associate Professor Lake Douglas and Professor Charles Fryling, will be elevated to the ASLA Council of Fellows, and the current president of the national organization is LSU alumnus Chad Danos, FASLA, BLA 1990.

Once again, LSU was named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National & Community Service, or CNCS. Recognized in the areas of education, economic opportunity, and general community service, this award for community engaged work completed during the 2013-2014 school year marks the tenth year in a row LSU has received recognition on the Honor Roll.

Two LSU Online degree programs were recently ranked among the top 20 online programs in the county. BestColleges.com has ranked LSU’s master’s degree in education program 11th overall, and Affordable Colleges Online has ranked LSU’s master’s degree in social work program 12th overall.

Want to be a doctor or dentist? Let LSU prepare you. Of 323 LSU students who applied to medical school, 174 of them were accepted. That’s 53.8%, significantly higher than the national average of med school acceptance rates of 39.7%. Of the 64 LSU students who applied to dental school, 37 of them were accepted. That’s 57.8%, compared to the national dental school acceptance rate of 36.4%. 83% of the accepted pre-med students and 88% of the accepted pre-dental students from LSU were in the College of Science. 

In its first time competing, a team of LSU accounting students placed first at the 2016 Deloitte National Accounting Case Competition, besting Brigham Young University, University of Notre Dame, University of Missouri, Florida A&M University and Miami University of Ohio.

LSU is one of 40 top colleges and universities recognized by Phi Theta Kappa as a member of the inaugural Excellence in Community College Transfer Honor Roll, which identifies the top four-year colleges and universities for creating dynamic pathways to support community college transfer.

LSU, in particular the efforts of the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes, is one of eight colleges and universities nationwide being honored by University Business magazine in its Spring 2016 Models of Excellence recognition program.

Education Trust’s newest paper – “Rising Tide II: Do Black Students Benefit as Grad Rates Increase?” – finds that LSU is one of only 53 universities in the country recognized for its work in improving graduation rates for black students.

The LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business Flores MBA Program improved on its 2016 “Best Business School” ranking by U.S. News & World Report, moving up 11 spots among public institutions in the 2017 rankings to No. 33. 

The LSU Law Center moved up 12 spots to No. 82 in the latest law school rankings released today by U.S. News and World Report. The Law Center remained in the top 100 law schools in the nation in the closely watched rankings, moving up from No. 94 in the previous year. 

The STE||AR Group is honored to have been selected as one of the 2016 Google Summer of Code (GSoC) mentor organizations for the third year in a row. 

Eduniversal released its annual best masters rankings recently - fifth annual edition of these rankings, which Rate 4,000 masters programs for 30 majors across the world. 

  • Ranked Business’ Master of Public Administration and Master of Science in Finance programs ninth and 11th among public colleges and universities in the US.
  • The MPA program was ranked in the “Best Masters Ranking in Public Administration/Management” category.

The LSU Flores MBA online program is ranked No. 57 among public colleges and universities and is No. 72 overall in U.S. News & World Report’s rankings of best online MBA programs released today.
Still in its relative infancy, the LSU Flores Online MBA Program has been ranked No. 32 overall in the Online MBA Report’s 2015 rankings of the top 50 such programs in the United States. The program was ranked No. 28 among public schools and No. 10 in the South.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi – the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines – recently recognized the LSU chapter of Phi Kappa Phi as a Chapter of Excellence, the highest commendation a chapter can receive from the organization. The award is given to chapters that excel in recognizing and promoting academic excellence in all fields of higher education and engaging the community of scholars in service to others.

The Chapter of Excellence distinction is a part of the Society’s Chapter Recognition program, which acknowledged 53 chapters with recognition this year, including 29 as a Chapter of Excellence.

The November/December 2014 issue of “America’s Best Architecture & Design Schools” ranked the undergraduate program as number one in the nation and the graduate program as number five in the nation for the year 2015.

LSU’s undergraduate degree in human resources has been ranked in the “Top 25 Bachelor’s in Human Resources Degrees” by Human Resources MBA. LSU’s B.S. in management – human resources concentration is ranked eighth overall. 
LSU Oceanography and Coastal Sciences Professor Robert Twilley, a fellow in the Coastal Studies Institute, is the lead investigator of a joint project focusing on the sustainability of deltaic landscapes. The project, “DELTA SEES: Sustainability of Deltaic Coastlines – The Trillion Dollar Problem,” has been named a recipient of the National Science Foundation’s, or NSF, 2014 Coastal SEES award.
In U.S. News & World Report’s 2015 edition of Best Colleges, LSU is ranked in the top tier for “Best National Universities” and is ranked 63rd overall among public universities.
Enhancing diversity at LSU is a core institutional value. This month, LSU received the 2014 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity, or HEED, Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity Magazine – the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education – making it the third year in a row that the university has been named as a HEED Award recipient.   

LSU is the top university in the nation in granting Ph.D. degrees in chemistry to women and underrepresented minority students, according to a study published in the Journal of Chemical Education.

The study cites LSU’s growth specifically in chemistry Ph.D. degrees awarded to women – 49 percent growth from 2005-09 – and African-American students – 19 percent growth from 2005-09. LSU is also the top university listed, with 11 percent growth from 2005-2009, in the number of chemistry Ph.D. degrees awarded to all groups of underrepresented minority students.

BI Software Insight, which offers objective research and reviews of business intelligence solutions, has named the LSU Master of Science in Analytics program among the nation’s top programs.

According to BI Software Insight, LSU’s program, housed in the Department of Information Systems & Decision Sciences, helps “meet the rising demand for data scientists and analysts who are capable of turning data into insights.”

The School of Art in the LSU College of Art & Design was recently ranked as one of the top-10 animation school programs in the South, and a top-50 program in the nation by Animation Career Review. The site’s 2014 animation school rankings are the source for aspiring animation, design and gaming professionals seeking information on training programs, schools and colleges.

After making a significant jump in U.S. News & World Report’s rankings last year, the LSU Flores MBA Program retained most of the ground it gained and is 37 among public institutions in the “Best Business Schools” ranking for 2015. More than half of this year’s top 50 schools are public institutions. The LSU Flores MBA Program’s overall ranking of 65 is only a slight change from last year.  

The LSU Coastal Sustainability Studio, or CSS, a trans-disciplinary program of the LSU College of Art & Design,College of Engineering and School of the Coast & Environment, has been awarded the prestigious Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, or ACSA, Collaborative Practice Award for 2012-13.
Eduniversal has announced its 2012-2013 ranking of the best 4,000 masters programs for 30 majors and has included the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business Public Administration Institute, or PAI, and Department of Finance in the mix. The worldwide ranking body designated PAI’s Master of Public Administration as 19th in North America and LSU’s Master of Science in Finance curriculum as 40th in North America. This is the second annual edition of these Eduniversal rankings, which are separate and unrelated to its global rankings for business schools.
LSU has been selected as a best value on both Kiplinger’s Personal Finance’s list of the “Best Values in Public Colleges, 2013” and “The Princeton Review 100 Best Value Colleges for 2013,” presented by USA Today.

In response to the growing demand for highly educated and skilled engineers, LSU’s College of Engineering is helping to meet the state’s and nation’s workforce needs by graduating more than 750 students in 2012 and producing students whose starting salaries are above national averages.

The LSU Flores MBA Program made a significant 20-spot leap overall in U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Graduate Schools” ranking for 2014. U.S. News & World Report ranked the LSU Flores MBA Program at 61 overall and 31 among public institutions.

U.S. News also periodically ranks graduate programs in science, social sciences and humanities, health, and many other areas based solely on the ratings of academic experts. For the 2014 edition, new rankings have been published for social sciences and humanities’ Ph.D. programs in English, history, political science, psychology and sociology, as well as for master’s programs in library and information studies.  

The LSU graduate programs ranked this year include:

  • Ph.D. Program in English: LSU ranked 82 out of 156 schools listed
  • Ph.D. Program in History: LSU ranked 84 out of 147 schools listed
  • Ph.D. Program in Political Science: LSU ranked 68 out of 119 schools listed
  • Ph.D. Program in Psychology: LSU ranked 117 out of 246 schools listed
  • Ph.D. Program in Sociology: LSU ranked 76 out of 117 schools listed
  • Master’s Program in Library and Information Studies: LSU ranked 27 out of 51 schools listed

LSU has been named to the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. This designation is the highest honor a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.

LSU’s student newspaper, The Daily Reveille, has been honored as the nation’s best all-around student newspaper by the Society of Professional Journalists at its recent Mark of Excellence, or MOE, Awards banquet in Indianapolis.

In addition to the overall award, the Reveille took home the following honors:

  • Luke Johnson, a December, 2012 graduate from Lake Mills, Wisc., was honored as a national finalist for both sports column writing and sports writing.
  • Gordon Brillon, a junior from Lincoln, R.I., was honored as a finalist in general column writing.

The LSU Flores MBA Program’s full-time track was recently named by U.S. News and World Report as having the lowest debt load upon students after graduation among the top 100 ranked MBA programs.

LSU Flores MBA graduates owed an average of $8,181 following the two-year program. U.S. News & World Report calculated the average MBA program student debt load incurred by full-time MBA students across the nation graduating in 2012 to be $49,619 among the 100 ranked schools.

The LSU School of Kinesiology’s Health & Physical Education program has achieved national recognition by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education, or NASPE, a prestigious honor that will affect the school’s current NCATE and future CAEP accreditation.

For the sixth time in a row, LSU has been recognized as one of the top universities in the country by U.S. News & World Report. In U.S. News & World Report’s 2014 edition of Best Colleges, LSU is ranked in the first tier for “Best National Universities.”

LSU Upward Bound advances into its second year at the university and has started the new academic year in full force by taking its junior and senior high school students to the Southwest Association of Student Assistance Programs, or SWASAP, Student Leadership Conference in Hawkins, Texas.

TopManagementDegrees.com has ranked the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business No. 10 in its recent listing of the world’s 50 most beautiful business schools worldwide. Using publicly available data from the National Center for Education Statistics and other credible publications, the site creates rankings of the best management degree programs in a variety of specializations as well.

LSU is once again ranked as one of the 100 best values in public higher education, according to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance. The ranking cites four-year schools that combine outstanding education with economic value.

For in-state student value, LSU ranks 72 overall and for out-of-state student value, LSU is ranked 91.

A group of faculty from the LSU AgCenter and LSU’s Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness was recently awarded $238,500 from the Food and Agricultural Sciences National Needs Graduate Fellowship, or NNF, Grants Program to provide three Ph.D. fellowships beginning in August 2012. The department was one of only 12 recipients of this prestigious fellowship, which are awarded in the areas of food and agricultural sciences.

The National Business Incubation Association, or NBIA, has awarded the NBIA Soft Landings International Incubator designation to the LSU Louisiana Business & Technology Center.
Several LSU post-graduate programs are ranked in the 2013 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Graduate Schools,” released March 13. Programs that saw improvement in their rankings include the LSU College of Education, the LSU College of Engineering, the Flores MBA Program and the university’s ranking among fine arts university graduate programs.

The LSU College of Engineering rose to a ranking of 82, up from 94 last year, in U.S. News & World Report’s 2012 edition of Best Colleges. Out of the 363 engineering schools ranked nationally, the U.S. News & World Report ranks LSU’s College of Engineering fifth among SEC undergraduate engineering programs, following only the University of Florida, Vanderbilt University, Auburn University and the University of Tennessee.

LSU’s program is also ranked the best in the state of Louisiana and received a higher ranking than the University of Alabama, University of Arkansas and Mississippi State University in the region.

LSU’s Creative Writing Master of Fine Arts, or MFA, program is ranked 21 overall in the new issue of Poets & Writers Magazine. LSU is tied at 21 with Arizona State University in the 2012 MFA Rankings. Last year, LSU was ranked 27 overall and was 42 overall in 2010.
LSU Information Technology Services has been recognized with an award for Institutional Excellence in Information Communications Technology for the Geaux WiFi service. The award was given during the Association for Information Communicators Technology Professionals in Higher Education, or ACUTA, 40th Annual Conference & Exhibition.
For the second consecutive year, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi recently recognized the campus chapter at LSU as a Chapter of Excellence.
In its most recent ranking of the Top Business Schools, Eduniversal ranked the E. J. Ourso College of Business at 52 overall, an improvement of three spots. The college was ranked in the “4 Palmes” category, and was the 30th ranked public institution in that category.

LSU once again ranks as one of the 100 best values in public higher education, according to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance. The personal finance magazine has released its annual ranking of four-year institutions that deliver a stellar education at an affordable price. The annual public school rankings appear in Kiplinger’s February 2011 issue – on newsstands today – and online at www.kiplinger.com/tools/colleges. LSU ranks 76th – ahead of peer institutions like the universities of Alabama, Colorado, Oklahoma and Oregon and Auburn University – and in a similar range to schools such as Missouri and Tennessee.

LSU has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service 2009 Honor Roll, the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.
Tiger TV, LSU’s student-run television network, was recently honored by College Media Advisors Inc. with a David L. Adams Apple Award in Television Broadcast for the program “Your Source.”
An article written by two LSU physicists, T. Gregory Guzik and John P. Wefel, and their colleagues has been ranked among the 50 most cited high energy physics article of 2009 by the SPIRES database. The article, titled “An excess of cosmic ray electrons at energies of 300-800 GeV” and originally published in the prestigious journal Nature, is listed at number 25 in the rankings at http://www.slac.stanford.edu/spires/topcites/2009/annual.shtml
The LSU Museum of Art has received the highest national recognition for a museum by achieving accreditation from the American Association of Museums, or AAM, which signifies excellence to the museum community, governments, funders, outside agencies and the museum-going public.
For the third straight year, LSU is ranked in the first tier for “Best National Universities” in U.S. News & World Report’s 2011 edition of America’s Best Colleges.
LSU’s Phi Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi has been recognized once again as a KPMG Gold Chapter by the national professional honorary accounting fraternity. Julie Chenier, an instructor in the LSU Department of Accounting, serves as the Phi Chapter’s academic advisor.
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi recently recognized the chapter at LSU as a "Chapter of Excellence." The award, presented at the organization’s national biennial convention last month in Kansas City, Mo., is given to chapters that excel in recognizing and promoting academic excellence in all fields of higher education and engaging the community of scholars in service to others.

In the 2009, 2010 and 2011 editions of U.S. News & World Report’s America’s Best Colleges, LSU is ranked in the first tier for “Best National Universities. 
In 2009, the LSU Robert S. Reich School of Landscape Architecture was ranked among the top five schools in the nation by DesignIntelligence, the leading journal of the design professions. It marks the fifth consecutive year LSU ranks among the top five. According to the results of the 2009 survey, LSU has the number two-ranked landscape architecture school in the United States.
The LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business' Department of Finance was named a CFA Institute Program Partner. The CFA Institute is the global association for investment professionals. It administers the Chartered Financial Analyst and Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement curriculum and exam programs worldwide; publishes research; conducts professional development programs and sets voluntary, ethics-based professional and performance-reporting standards for the investment industry.
