LSU Bridge to Engineering
Excellence Program
LSU Bridge to Engineering Excellence (BEE) Program is a virtual summer program designed to help incoming LSU College of Engineering students strengthen their foundation in differential and integral calculus. The program covers key calculus concepts, including inverse functions, logarithms, trigonometry, limits and continuity, differentiation and its applications, integration, and applications of integration.
BEE Scholars benefit from instruction by university-based PhD mathematics faculty with extensive expertise in these areas. Additionally, BEE Scholars participants gain:
- A thorough review and reinforcement of algebra and pre-calculus concepts.
- Early exposure to and preparation for differential and integral calculus.
- Personalized support through small-group guidance from LSU Engineering students serving as teaching assistants.
Program Dates: Summer 2026 TBD (M,T,W,TH)
Application Deadline: Open until filled or until June 1, 2026.
Participation Fee: No fees for participants; This is made possible with funding from ExxonMobil.

Summer 2025 Participant Testimonials:
“The Bridge to Engineering Program (BEE) is not just a program that teaches you about Calculus. It is a course that teaches you how to best navigate college. You get access to resources and opportunities that will give you an advantage in the beginning courses.”
“Bridge to Engineering Excellence (BEE) improved my confidence going into higher-level math. My instructor created an environment conducive to learning and asking questions, and the homework kept my skills fresh so I could put my best foot forward going into the school year. The friends and connections I made through this program helped me feel like I already have a place in LSU's engineering program. I would recommend BEE to anyone entering engineering or an adjacent field!”
“The LSU BEE course has been a great way to prepare myself for future classes at LSU. While sometimes I felt nervous and, at times, confused, I was able to succeed in the program due to the support of the people involved. The program has a good balance between math classes and learning about LSU, which makes me, as a student, calmer about what college entails. All the worries about professors, class sizes, dealing with stress, and academic success were introduced, and those concerns were answered. By being able to speak with other students within the program, I was able to see that I was not alone... Going through this course has definitely made me a better student; it has prepared me for who I need to be in college to succeed. Even though the course is focused on math, I have no doubt that this experience has prepared me to be attentive, focused, and confident in other college classes. The BEE program is in the summer, and while it takes effort, time, and determination, the program is extremely rewarding.”
“I’m so glad I participated in the BEE program this summer! The experience was truly invaluable, and I feel much more confident in my abilities to tackle engineering challenges. The program’s structure and support helped me grasp complex concepts, and I saw a significant improvement in my problem-solving skills. I highly recommend this program to any student looking to get a head start on their engineering journey. The knowledge and skills I gained will undoubtedly benefit me in my future studies and career. Don’t hesitate to join- it’s an investment in your academic and professional growth!!!”
