Greg Schufreider received his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1975. He has been a member of the philosophy faculty at LSU since 1979. In 1995 he founded the LSU Program for the Study of the Audiovisual Arts and directed it until 2004. Since then he has served as the Director of Graduate Studies for philosophy. Dr. Schufreider served the Department as Chair from 2016 until 2021.


Areas of Interest

Professor Schufreider’s areas of special interest include the history of philosophy, recent continental philosophy (especially Heidegger), and the philosophy of art (including audiovisual arts and the philosophy of film). His research has centered especially on Heidegger, and he is at work on a two-volume study of Heidegger and Mondrian.
