LSU Accounting Senior, Anna Sightler, from Franklinton, La, is the 2017-2018 recipient of          the Saundra Yancy McGuire Outstanding Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader award in            recognition of her service and commitment to the SI program.

Sightler leads SI sessions for Accounting 2001, where business students are introduced to      financial accounting. She has been a SI leader for the last five consecutive semesters at          LSU.

Susan Saale, LSU CAS Associate Director commented on Sightler saying, “Under Anna’s          leadership the Accounting SI program has grown significantly.  We have been very
fortunate to have such a dedicated person in the position in its initial stages.”

Being an SI Leader helped Sightler realize her love of teaching and confirmed her decision      to practice in the accounting field.  She explained, “I enjoy helping students reach their            academic goals through understanding and practicing the course material.  Nothing is            more rewarding than the moment when one of my students is able to exceed a target
grade on an exam or fully understand a concept.  Additionally, being a SI leader has made      me even more passionate about my field of study, and helped me realize how much
I love teaching.  Becoming a SI leader has been one of the most rewarding experiences
that I could have ever imagined."

SI leaders are responsible for organizing study sessions with guidance from LSU instructors to aid students in learning course material. SI leaders are trained by LSU CAS staff on how they can best supplement courses, and have successfully completed the course they are instructing with a B letter grade or above.  The LSU CAS SI program is also internationally certified by the International Center for Supplemental Instruction, and is one of five state university programs in the country with the three-year certification.
