CAS LAUNCHES CAS ONLINE

March 30, 2020

CAS Online ComputerThe LSU Center for Academic Success recently launched CAS Online, an online platform that provides support services for students while they transition to remote learning. Through CAS Online, students can access free CAS services and resources, no matter where they are.

 Services include online tutoring, Academic Coaching, and Supplemental Instruction.

CAS AGAIN DESIGNATED A CENTER OF EXCELLENCE

October 31, 2019

CAS Staff with NCLCA AwardLSU’s acclaimed learning center, the Center for Academic Success (CAS), has garnered another national award. The National College Learning Center Association (NCLCA) designated LSU’s CAS as one of only a few Learning Centers of Excellence in the country. NCLCA which represents more than 1,500 learning centers, supports higher education learning centers through professional development, certifications, standard-setting and awards.

LSU CAS PROMOTES PAM BALL TO ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR

pam ballEffective August 1, 2019 Pam Ball leads the LSU Center for Academic Success’s (CAS) Office of Academic Engagement and Achievement as Associate Director. Previous to her promotion, Ball served students as an Academic Coach, Program Coordinator and Program Manager for the department since 1999. In her previous positions she was responsible for overseeing several academic programs, events and also met with students one-on-one to plan effective learning strategies and healthy habits for academic success. Prior to CAS, Ball’s professional experience included counseling, corporate training and program development.

CAS CERTIFIED AS CENTER OF EXCELLENCE

NCLCA CertificationIn 2015, the National College Learning Center Association (NCLCA) certified the Center for Academic Success (CAS) as one of only two Learning Centers of Excellence in the country at the time. To date, three learning centers are certified as such.

The NCLCA created the Learning Center of Excellence certification program to promote professional standards of excellence, honor established and unique learning centers, encourage centers to develop, maintain and assess quality programs and services and celebrate outstanding achievements of centers that meet and exceed these standards.

The certification program is endorsed by the Council of Learning Assistance and Developmental Education Associations (CLADEA), and is the only certification program that recognizes learning centers that have a demonstrated history of excellence and have effectively exceeded the professional standards and best practices in the field of learning assistance. Read more about our Center of Excellence certification.

CAS Tutoring Receives CRLA Certification

CAS Tutors Receiving CRLA CertificationCAS tutors working in the LSU Shell Tutorial Center completed their training to become certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). CRLA certification recognizes tutors that have completed a minimum of 10 hours pertaining to tutoring best practices, 50 hours of tutoring and course participation in the subject they are tutoring with an A or B final grade.

CRLA certification benefits the LSU Shell Tutorial Center, the students who receive services, and the tutors themselves. Tutors are encouraged to add the completion of their university’s tutor training program to their resumes or curricula vitae to demonstrate their leadership and comprehension abilities.

CAS Supplemental Instruction Earns International Certification

UMKC SI CertificationLSU Center for Academic Success’ (CAS) Supplemental Instruction (SI) program has received International Center for Supplemental Instruction accreditation. LSU’s CAS SI program is one of five state university programs in the country with the three-year certification.

The International Center for Supplemental Instruction awards certification to SI programs that meet their core-four criteria, which includes International Center training of the SI program coordinator and training of SI leaders before and during each semester. The program must demonstrate a strong focus on SI session planning, SI leader/faculty collaboration, and anticipation of student needs. Read more about our UMKC SI certification.
