March 13, 2020. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, the LSU Museum of Natural Science is closed to visitors until further notices. All Museum events, including Special Saturdays, Night at the Museum, and group field trips have been canceled.

August 13, 2019. “Special Saturdays” at the LSU Museum of Natural Science is a STEM program that focuses on introducing children and their parents to the world of natural science. One Saturday a month we focus on a specific topic and invite experts from within the LSU research community to give short engaging talks accompanied by hands-on activities.

Claire Carter, Bone Detective - Book Signing Event
January 2, 2019. The LSU Museum of Natural Science is hosting a presentation and book signing by forensic anthropologist Mary H. Manhein, featuring the first book in a new series for young readers, Claire Carter, Bone Detective: The Mystery of the Bones in the Drainpipe. The program will take place on Saturday, January 19 at 2 pm.

New Interactive iPads at the LSUMNS!
August 20, 2018. In 2016, the LSU Museum of Natural Science was awarded a grant from the LSU Student Sustainability Fund to mount iPads near all nine of our habitat dioramas to add a modern element and make them more interactive and educational. We are excited to announce that the project is now complete. With the iPads, you can now learn more about the 150+ animals and plants featured in our dioramas with a touch of the finger (see example below). This is a permanent addition to the LSUMNS so stop by and check it out!
2018 Fall Seminar Schedule
August 20, 2018. The Museum Seminar Series is a weekly research talk at the LSU Museum of Natural Science given by invited speakers and LSU personnel that revolves around topics of natural history, ecology, or evolutionary biology. Seminars are open to the public and take place on Fridays at 3:30pm in the museum exhibits area.
2018-2019 Night at the Museum Schedule Posted!
August 13, 2018. “Night at the Museum” is a FREE public event and everyone is welcome to attend. Each “night” we will focus on a specific LSUMNS research collection (i.e. birds, mammals, fish, etc). Scientists working with that collection will give short engaging talks about their research and then take guests on a behind the scenes tour* of their focus collection. You will also have the opportunity to view specimens up close and meet graduate & undergraduate students working at the museum.

All programs are FREE and are especially appropriate for children ages 5-12. Sessions are held in the exhibit area of the LSU Museum of Natural Science (Foster Hall) from 10:00am-12:00pm.
