Clare Falcon is the new state geologist of Louisiana and director of the Louisiana Geological Survey, or LGS, on Sept. 20. She brings more than 25 years of professional geoscience experience, most of which has been in industry, to the state leadership position. 

Most recently, Falcon has worked in Houston for BHP, a global resources company headquartered in Melbourne, Australia. Since 2017, she served as a leadership coach, a geoscience manager and a geologist on Gulf of Mexico exploration and appraisal projects in the U.S. and Mexico for the company. Previously, she led the Gulf of Mexico exploration team as an exploration sedimentologist for Italian multinational oil and gas company, Eni. She has also worked for Amoco, Schlumberger and Statoil. She is originally from the village of Milverton in West Somerset in southwest England. She received her PhD from the University of Leeds, UK and bachelor’s degree in geology from Liverpool University.

Melissa Esnault is the Administrative Coordinator of the LGS. She graduated from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana, in 2000 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Family Studies with a concentration in Early Childhood Development. Melissa joined LSU in 2007 as a Coordinator in LSU’s Office of Human Resources, where she was the assistant to the associate vice chancellor of Human Resource Management. She was previously employed as an inside sales representative by the Tembec Paper Corporation in St Francisville, Louisiana and as an executive administrative assistant by the eFederal Credit Union in Baton Rouge. Melissa joined the LGS in 2010.

Reed Bourgeois obtained a Bachelors of Science from Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana in 1985. Reed provides computer assistance to the research staff with their projects and is also responsible for the acquisition, upkeep, and maintenance of LGS computer hardware and software. Reed started at LSU in 1991.
