Eligibility Information

Eligible Undergraduates

LSU SSS admits eligible undergraduates with an academic need who may have a documented disability, meet the income eligibility below or are first-generation students.

  • An ideal participant is an undergraduate who meets the eligibility requirements, possesses a strong desire, and is highly motivated to successfully graduate with a postsecondary degree.

  • Priority consideration is given to students who meet the income criteria and are first-generation OR who meet the income criteria and are a student with a disability.

  • Ultimately, it is our objective to see our participants stay in college until they earn their baccalaureate degrees.

Eligibility Criteria

  • a US citizen, US National or permanent resident
    an admitted LSU student with a need for academic support - specific examples:
    • an ACT score of 27 or lower,
    • lack of eligibility for the required math or science courses for the student’s major
    • incongruence between high school GPA and ACT scores
    • an enrolled undergraduate pursuing a first college degree with a college GPA of 2.99 or below
    • other need for academic support identified by the student and approved by the director

  • able to demonstrate potential for academic success

  • highly motivated to graduate with a postsecondary degree

  • A student who meets at least one of the following:
    • has a documented disability, OR
    • whose parent(s) has/have not completed a four-year college degree, OR
    • whose family income is either at or below the following federal guideline requirements

For family units with more than eight members, add the following amount for each additional family member: $7,710 for the 48 contiguous states, the District of Columbia and outlying jurisdictions; $9,645 for Alaska; and $8,865 for Hawaii.

The term "low-income individual" means an individual whose family's taxable income for the preceding year did not exceed 150 percent of the poverty level amount.

The figures shown under family income represent amounts equal to 150 percent of the family income levels established by the Census Bureau for determining poverty status. The poverty guidelines were published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the Federal Register  on January 19, 2023 and are effective as of January 19, 2023.
