Louisiana State University is pleased to welcome the 41st United States Association for Energy Economics North American Conference to our campus in Baton Rouge on November 3-6, 2024.
We extend our warmest greetings to all attendees, distinguished guests, and participants as we gather to explore the forefront of energy economics in the heart of Louisiana. Hosted against the backdrop of LSU's renowned energy research and the rich cultural tapestry of southern Louisiana, this conference promises to be an enlightening and enriching experience for all involved.
Conference Venue
All sessions will take place in the LSU Student Union, located in the center of campus.
Gulf Theme
The U.S. Gulf Coast is one of the most significant energy corridors in the world. The U.S. is the largest producer of oil and natural gas, and the Gulf Coast region is the epicenter of U.S. energy infrastructure. Pipeline networks move hydrocarbon-based feedstocks from all over the country, and world, to be processed into liquid fuels, polymers, chemicals, fertilizers, and countless other products, which are then exported both nationally and internationally. As a result of this industrial development, the demand for electricity has grown in the region, bucking the nationwide trend of relatively flat electricity demand over the past decade.
The obvious challenge: Gulf Coast industries are emissions intensive. For Louisiana specifically, approximately two-thirds of its greenhouse gas emissions are from industrial sources. For all other states, transportation and electricity generate the largest portion of emissions.
Thus, the theme of this year’s conference will be how the Gulf Coast region of the U.S. balances cost-competitive production with achieving meaningful reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. A second theme will be Louisiana’s fragile coastline’s interplay with the energy sector.
Throughout our time together, we will delve into these critical issues shaping the energy landscape, from policy developments and market trends to technological innovations and sustainable practices. With a diverse array of sessions and networking opportunities, this conference offers a platform for thought-provoking discussions, knowledge sharing, and collaboration among leading experts, industry professionals, academics, and students alike.
