Student Hardship Fund

Purpose

The LSU SVM Hardship Support Fund was established through funds raised by the school’s development and fundraising office. This fund is used for limited financial assistance when students are unable to meet immediate, essential expenses due to a temporary hardship.

Types of Covered Expenses

Typical expenses covered include those arising from unexpected incidents creating financial hardship. These funds are not intended to be used for routine expenses nor as a consistent supplement to a student’s education funding sources. Requests should be those that are urgent in nature.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicant must be a currently enrolled DVM student at Louisiana State University and A&M College (Baton Rouge) in good standing and have temporary financial hardship. Applicant must be able to provide sufficient documentation of financial hardship.

Hardships

Examples may include, but are not limited to:

  • Natural disasters
  • Need for temporary housing, including fire damage
  • Medical emergency
  • Travel emergency
  • Accidents
  • COVID 19 related challenges
  • Food insecurities

Supporting Documentation

Examples of documentation may include, but are not limited to:

  • Emergency medical bills
  • Estimates for repairs
  • Documentary evidence (photographs or videos)
  • Letters of support (usually witnesses of your need)
  • Email correspondence related to your emergency situation
  • Financial information
  • Police/fire reports or other accident report
  • Loss of income

Award Amounts and Eligibility

  • Awards typically range from $200-400. However, the amounts may vary based on need and justification.
  • Limited funds are available for distribution.
  • Limited to one award per student per academic year with no more than two awards total while in veterinary school.
  • Students should also apply for hardship funding through the LSU Cares system.
  • Students who did not receive LSU cares emergency fund distributions for COVID 19 will have preference for SVM hardship funds.

Application Process

Once you submit your application, the Dean and the Associate Dean of Students will review your application. You will be contacted shortly after with their decision.
