The History Graduate Student Association at Louisiana State University (HGSA) exists to foster an academic, professional, and social community among the graduate students in the Department of History.  In order to meet this goal, we work with the Department of History to provide graduate students with opportunities for academic and professional development in the form of meetings, seminars, conferences, and social gatherings.

All graduate students registered with the Department of History are automatically considered members of the HGSA.  We hope this website will answer most of your questions about life as a graduate student at LSU, and if you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.

February 22-23, 2019: The HGSA will hold its tenth annual Graduate History Conference. The conference allows graduate students to present their original and ongoing work in a professional environment and to receive feedback from their peers and experts within their field. Keynote speaker: Dr. Pedro Reina-Pérez, professor at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus and director of the Harvard Puerto Rico Winter Institute.

Fall 2017-Spring 2018 (all year): The Social Committee is enlisting interest in group events such as visiting the U.S.S. Kidd, the Whitney Plantation, the Louisiana Renaissance Festival, and sites in New Orleans. Contact Erin Halloran, Edrea Mendoza, or Libby Taylor.

September 2017: Erin Halloran is seeking ideas and suggestions for 2017-2018 HGSA T-shirts.

September 2017: Erin Halloran also needs photos and project information for our "propaganda TV." Please send this information at your earliest convenience.

September 2017: Interested in improving your writing and study habits? Contact Edrea Mendoza for putting together study groups for those still in coursework. For PhD Candidates seeking peer-review and writing accountability, the HGSA is also encouraging structured writing groups, contact Ali Nabours for resources.

September 30, 2017: HGSA tailgate.

October 2017: Book Sale volunteers needed. Be on the lookout for a signup sheet.

October 2017: The Department's workshop series on teaching, TIPS is ongoing. Contact Dr. Veldman for details.
