For an appointment call 225-578-6716 during hours of operation. Appointments are preferred. Patients without appointments may be seen on a first come, first served basis by one of our Urgent Care providers. Emergency care cases always take priority.
An ambulance may be summoned for acute medical emergencies by dialing 578-HELP (4357). State the condition of the person and the
exact location. If you are in a residence hall, a staff person should be notified at once.
For emergencies, call or go to one of the following hospital emergency rooms, open 24 hours daily:
Baton Rouge General Hospital
8585 Picardy Ave.
Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center
5000 Hennessy Blvd.
Ochsner Medical Center
16777 Medical Center Dr.
The above hospitals accept out-of-state checks. They also accept LSU student insurance. (Please check your policy for limitations.) Any expenses incurred as a result of medical care obtained off-campus, including ambulance service, are your responsibility.
Mental Health Emergencies
It is always recommended that students call the clinic to schedule an appointment for service. However, the Mental Health Service has a counselor available for students in times of an urgent situation/emergency during regular clinic hours.
What constitutes an emergency?
Typically emergencies involve traumatic and life-threatening situations, such as suicide and sexual assaults.
What should I do if I have an emergency?
If your situation becomes urgent or if a medical emergency arises immediately:
- Call Mental Health Service at 225-578-8774 during clinic hours.
A mental health clinician can talk with you about the urgent situation and plan your next step with you.
- Call the LSU crisis intervention and referral service, "The Phone" at 225-924-5781.
Trained counselors are available 24 hours per day to talk with you. All calls are confidential.
- Go to a local hospital emergency room.
In Baton Rouge we suggest going to the COPE Team 225-765-6565 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital (5000 Hennessey Blvd.)
- Call 911.
