Move-In

We are planning for a safe move-in experience August 15-23, 2020, with assigned times and days to minimize contact with other families and staff.

View your move-in time on the “My Details” page of the housing portal. If you change rooms, your move-in time will also change.

Upload a photo for your Tiger Card by August 11, 2020, in the Tiger Card Photo Upload Portal > Quick Actions > Photo Upload. Your Tiger Card will be waiting for you at check in!

Read the Living on Campus Handbook for all policies and procedures, including coronavirus community standards.

Check off things to pack on our packing guide

View your room assignment and roommates on the "My Details" tab in the myLSU housing portal.

Check your mailbox for your move-in hang tags. You will receive two car hang tags that grant entry into the River Road staging area on your assigned day and time.

If your room assignment or move-in time changed after August 1, we will email your new hang tags to you.

Your mailing address may feature the wrong first name on the move-in mailer. We are so sorry for this error. Your home address, move-in time, and hang tags are correct. It was a human error on our part, where the first name field was mismatched with the rest of the information. We are so sorry.

Photocopying or printing extra copies of hang tags is not permitted. Please help this process move smoothly for everyone by following the instructions provided.

Position your hang tag on your car's rear view mirror with the date and time facing forward. Each student can bring up to 2 cars. If you have a third car, you need to park it in a perimeter lot on campus before coming to the staging area. A third car will not be allowed into the move-in staging area.

Groups with too many unapproved guests will be asked to exit the staging area and come back with the appropriate number of guests.

Students and guests must get a wristband at the River Road staging area for entry into the residence halls and apartments.

Families bringing younger siblings must bring the approval email to secure a wristband for the extra guest. Approvals are now closed as of Thursday, August 13, 2020, so our team can focus on in-community preparations for students. Thank you for understanding in these unprecedented times.

Arrive at Lot 412, the River Road staging area, within 15 minutes before or after your move-in time.

Early birds will be redirected to the exit lane to wait for their time.

Late arrivals will be accommodated as possible; however, most late comers will be told to exit the staging area and schedule another time with the in-hall staff (residence coordinator, RC) to arrive.

Pull up to the welcome tents where you will exchange your hang-tag for a building-specific hang tag and get wristbands.

From there just follow the directional signage and friendly faces to get in the correct lane for your building and then from the staging area to your residence hall or apartment unloading zone.

At your community's unloading zone, guests can begin unloading cars while the student enters the building to check in.

Everyone is required to properly wear a face covering.

Wheeled carts will be available. Please return them to the lobby after use so they can be cleaned for the next Tigers moving in.

Request to have your bed height adjusted at your community's front desk.

After cars are unloaded, they must be moved to parking areas throughout campus that do not interfere with move-in routes. Guests can then walk back to their student's community and rejoin the group. Once belongings are in the room and set up begins, guests must stay in the room until departure time.

Bring down all trash and flattened cardboard boxes to the trash and recycle dumpsters outside the building.

Once guests exit the building, they will not be allowed back in.

You will drive straight to your community's unloading zone. The River Road staging area is only used August 15-19, 2020.

Once you're done setting up your new home, it's time for guests to exit the community. Once they exit, they will not be allowed back in due to our coronavirus community standards guests and visitation plan.

If you go shopping or go to dinner with your family, that is fine. Just know that when you come back to your res hall or apartment, only you (the student) will be allowed to enter the community. Also note that students are moving in from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. August 15-23, 2020. If you leave campus, be prepared for traffic congestion when you return during those days and times.

You may choose to meet your student later in the week, but you will need to meet them elsewhere on campus as non-residents will not be allowed into the buildings outside of their designated move-in day.

Welcome week begins after you move-in. LSU Enrollment Management and Orientation will send detailed schedules to you about all the Welcome Week activities.

Move-in Times

Yes, roommates are assigned the same move-in time.

Move-in times were assigned by room to space out students moving in throughout the buildings to minimize contact with people outside of your room and family group.

Requests to change move-in times should be directed to reslife@lsu.edu through 4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 14. Once move-in begins, any changes to arrival time must be approved by the Residence Coordinators of each community.

If you miss your move-in time, we will hold your room space through midnight on the first day of classes. In order to check in after your assigned move in time, you will need to contact the Residence Coordinators (RC) for your community to schedule a time that maximizes social distancing.

Due to coronavirus operations and precautions, we will not accept walk-in check-ins – you must have a scheduled appointment.

To have your Tiger Card ready for you upon your arrival to campus, electronically submit a photo by August 11, 2020, in the Tiger Card Photo Upload Portal.  Click on Photo Upload on left hand side under “Quick Actions.”

Once approved and printed, your Tiger Card will be waiting for you at check in at your residence hall.

Commuter students will need to visit the Tiger Card Office located on the first floor of the LSU Student Union to pick up their Tiger Card.

The Tiger Card office in the Student Union will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 15 and Sunday August 16, 2020. After that the office will operate under normal hours, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

If you have any questions concerning the upload process, please call 225-578-4300 or email tigercard@lsu.edu.

Dining halls open and meal plans begin on Saturday, August 15, 2020.

Volunteers will not be available to assist with moving belongings this year.

Each student may bring two (2) individuals to assist with move-in. Students and guests must get a wristband at the River Road staging area for entry into the residence halls and apartments. Each student may bring two (2) cars maximum.

Express move-in services are not available for fall 2020.
