Registration for the LSPA Fall Invitational is now open and will continue through October 23, 2026 or until available seats are taken. This competition has limited seats and will fill quickly. 

Step Into the Action of Student Media

The Louisiana Scholastic Press Association (LSPA) Fall Invitational is your chance to experience the thrill of live, on-the-spot competitions while learning from LSU’s top journalism and media experts.

This one-day event brings together high school students and advisers from across Louisiana who are passionate about writing, reporting, storytelling, broadcast or print journalism, digital marketing and advertising, yearbook design and school newspaper production.

Date: Friday, October 30, 2026
Time: 8:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. (Lunch Included)
(Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m., Competition kicks off at 9:00 a.m.)
Location: LSU Journalism Building, 144 Field House Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70803

What to Expect

  • LIVE Writing Competitions: We will provide written prompts under the topics of news writing, feature writing and sports writing. Students will have 45 minutes to complete their written submission on the spot.
  • Faculty-Led Feedback: Student written submissions are judged on the spot to provide first, second and third place winners in each writing category. LSU Manship School faculty will serve as live judges, offering professional insights you can use right away.
  • LIVE Broadcast Competition Showcase: Any school can participate in the live broadcast competition THE DAY OF the Invitational. FULL COMPETITION GUIDELINES ARE HERE. Schools must be present to submit and win. 
  • Campus and Student Media Tours: Explore LSU Student Media facilities and see how professional student journalists work. We also have guided tours of parts of the LSU campus.
  • Awards & Recognition: Celebrate your success with a catered lunch, medallion awards, and signed certificates to take back to your school.

Conference Fees:

$20 administration fee per school
$25 per person (students & advisers)
