Paula Arai is currently working on her third book, entitled The Art of Enlightenment: Black Holes, Buddhas, and the Heart Sutra. She received a number of invitations in 2017 to make a presentation on this work, entitled “Painting Enlightenment: The Art & Science of the Heart Sutra.”  She made this presentation at Swarthmore College in February, Austin College on March 22, Crow Collection of Asian Art in Dallas on March 24, and Naropa University in Boulder on April 11.

Delbert Burkett, after a year-long sabbatical leave in 2016-17, returned to LSU in fall 2017. During his sabbatical, he completed the typescript of his sixth book, The Case for Proto-Mark: A Study in the Synoptic Problem. This has been accepted for publication by Mohr Siebeck, a well-respected academic press in Germany, and is currently in production.

 

Delbert Burkett, during his sabbatical leave in 2016-17, completed a journal article entitled "“The Parable of the Unrighteous Steward (Luke 16:1-9): A Prudent Use of Mammon.” This has now been accepted for publication in the journal New Testament Studies.

 

Michael Pasquier secured a Whiting Foundation Public Humanities Fellowship (2017-2018) for a multidisciplinary project entitled “Coastal Voices.” He is developing an audio documentary series, website, and exhibition that explores the intersection of people, land, and water in coastal Louisiana.

 

Michael Pasquier published his textbook Religion in America: The Basics (Routledge 2017), a concise and affordable survey of the history of religion in the United States.

 

Michael Pasquier was invited in November to the University of Iowa as part of its Department of Religious Studies’ 90th Anniversary Lecture Series. He delivered the lecture, “The Lord Gave, and the Lord Taketh Away: Memories and Memorials of Loss in Coastal Louisiana.” He also screened his film Water Like Stone for a public audience at the independent theater FilmScene in Iowa City.
