2019 Holiday Decorating Contest

Theme: A Holiday Story with Mike the Tiger

LSU Staff Senate invites you to join our annual Holiday Decorating Contest! This year’s theme is “A Holiday Story with Mike the Tiger” There are two options to participate:

Option 1: Choose a category or both: bulletin board or door/entryway. There is a $10 per entry fee that benefits the Staff Senate Fee Support Scholarship Fund. These scholarships are awarded each semester to cover the costs associated with non-exempt fees for staff members and to the dependents of LSU staff members pursuing an LSU degree

Option 2: Decorate a box (your choice of size) and fill it with non-perishable food items to be donated to the LSU Food Pantry. The entry fee is waived. Entries will be judged for creativity and most individual food items donated.  

First and second place ribbons will be awarded in each category. One “Best in Show” entry will also be awarded. Decorations are judged on creativity, appearance and theme adaptation.

Les Voyageurs AG Holiday Gift Boxes

The “Les Voyageurs” of the College of Agriculture are selling holiday gift boxes for $30 which include 1 bag of Louisiana Rice, 2 lbs. of Cajun Christmas smoked sausage, 1 lb. of jalapeno cheddar cheese, and sweet potatoes. The sausage and cheese is made by students using the College of Agriculture facilities. All proceeds go to funding professional development and service activities for the organization. Kwanzaa is Swahili for “first fruits.” It signifies the first fruits of the harvest and is celebrated December 26 through January 1. The Clarence L. Barney Jr. African American Cultural Center sponsors a Pre-Kwanzaa ceremony every year to celebrate the traditional African values of family, community, responsibility, commerce, and self-improvement. Members of the LSU and Greater Baton Rouge community are welcomed and encouraged to dress in traditional African garments and participate in the many aspects of Kwanzaa, including music, dance, food, and storytelling.

A Rural Life Christmas

LSU Rural Life Museum

Ring in the Christmas season with the 19th century Louisiana celebration. Musical groups, demonstrating artisans, storytellers and costumed re-enactors will be present to set the holiday mood. The event will conclude with bonfire and a very special visit from Papa Noel. Cost for this event is $10 per person. Children 10 years and younger are free.
