Each LSU Family Council member is asked to serve on one of three committees:
Emergency Support Fund Committee
The Student Emergency Support Fund benefits students in need of support for emergency situations. The fund has helped
students who have experienced total loss due to fires, tragic/unexpected death of
a parent/family member, and sudden loss of employment. LSU Family Council members
serving on this Committee review Emergency Support Fund applications and provide a
recommendation on funding to Student Affairs staff via email within 48 hours.
Family Association Scholarship Committee
Since 2010, the LSU Family Association has awarded more than $220,000 in scholarships
to students of Family Association members. The Family Scholarship Fund helps alleviates financial burdens on students with a $1,000 scholarship. Scholarship
recipients are selected based on academic achievement, involvement, and leadership
and/or service in the LSU community. LSU Family Council members serving on this Committee
participate in the (second round) selection process by reviewing applicant responses
to two short essay questions and resumes and submitting scores and recommendations
to Student Affairs staff via email.
Campus Collaboration Grant Committee
Every year, the LSU Family Council provides up to $10,000 total to be awarded to up
to three LSU departments, programs, or initiatives. Members of the Campus Collaboration
Grant Committee review the first round of applications and choose three finalists
to present at the Spring Family Council Meeting. The final three can be awarded up
to $5,000 in support of their department or program. Grants are funded by the LSU Family Council Fund.
