Frequently Asked Questions
Who plans Fall Fest and why?
Fall Fest is a university tradition that began in 1994 as the Chancellor’s official “welcome” for new students, faculty, and staff and a “welcome back” for returning members of the University family. Today, Fall Fest is hosted by Campus Life with assistance from across campus. It is an event where students, faculty, and staff can come together on the LSU Parade Ground to celebrate being a part of the LSU community. LSU Fall Fest provides an opportunity to learn about different campus departments, meet new friends and classmates, enjoy free food and drinks, claim free giveaways, and celebrate the spirit of LSU with student entertainment from the Fall Fest stage.
Who can attend Fall Fest?
Fall Fest is open to all current LSU students, faculty, and staff, in addition to prospective students and their families registered and attending Kickoff LSU or parents and families attending Parent and Family Weekend that day. Additionally, members/employees of registered and approved sponsors are also welcome to attend Fall Fest.
How can I apply for a booth?
LSU departments/units and student organizations can register for a booth on the Department and Student Organizations page. You will be required to enter a current myLSU login to access the registration page. Any non-LSU affiliated organizations can apply to be a sponsor by reviewing the sponsorship options on the Fall Fest Sponsorship page to register.
How can my organization become a sponsor?
There are multiple levels of sponsorship available for Fall Fest depending on the impact and brand awareness you are interested in making with LSU students. The Booth Sponsorship level only allows you to be present at Fall Fest, while the Purple, Gold, and Presenting Sponsorship levels offer widespread publicity ahead of and at the events. For additional information or questions about sponsorships, please contact us at email@example.com.
Who do I contact about working/volunteering at Fall Fest?
Fall Fest would not be successful without the assistance of members of the LSU community. If you are interested in assisting with Fall Fest this year, please visit the volunteer page to register.
How can I apply to perform at Fall Fest?
Student Activities Board (SAB) at LSU is coordinating all Fall Fest entertainment from the stage, including selecting the emcees and working with them to put together the show. If your organization is interested in performing at Fall Fest, please contact the Student Activities Board (SAB) at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What happens to Fall Fest if it rains?
Fall Fest is a large outdoor event. Due to the size and scale of the event, cannot be moved indoors in the event of inclement weather. In the event of lightning or threat of severe weather, Fall Fest may be modified, cancelled, or rescheduled to another day. At this time, for the Fall 2017 semester the rain date will be Friday, October 13, 2017.
Attendees should follow directions from Fall Fest staff regarding weather safety decisions made during the event.
Is Fall Fest accessible to people with disabilities?
For those with mobility concerns, there are sidewalks around the main area of Fall Fest, but Fall Fest remains mostly grassy, particularly in and around all of the department, organization, and sponsor booths. In terms of entering the Parade Ground, the best place to enter may be off Tower Drive near the flag pole and Memorial Tower, as there is pavement that is mostly flat.
Fall Fest welcomes individuals with service and emotional support animals. Please bring water or food for your animal if needed; it can become very hot at Fall Fest, and there is very little shade. Also, please come prepared to dispose of your dog’s waste appropriately.
There is at least one accessible port-a-let in each bank of portable restrooms at Fall Fest, with additional accessible bathrooms located in the LSU Student Union.
If you need additional accommodations, such as an American Sign Language interpreter for the speakers and performers on the stage, we ask that you fill our out the ADA Accommodations request form at least seven (7) days in advance, so that we can make proper arrangements with LSU Disability Services.
What be available in the food areas?
The Fall Fest Committee works with LSU Dining, Coca-Cola, Magnolia Canteen, and Flowers Bakery to offer a limited food menu at no cost to LSU students, faculty, and staff. Attendees have the option of a hamburger, sausage dog, or veggie burger (limited quantity), along with a wide variety of potato chips and Coca-Cola products from which to choose. The LSU Dairy Store also offers cups of chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Additional food vendors from the Baton Rouge Community will be on hand to give out sample sizes.
I have dietary restrictions. What options are available to me?
We currently offer veggie burgers as an alternative to the hamburger and sausage dog offered in the food lines. If you would prefer a veggie burger, please inform a volunteer in the food tent when you arrive at the front of the serving line.
Will I be photographed at the event?
By attending Fall Fest, you hereby give Louisiana State University permission to make photographs, videotapes, or sound recordings, separately or in combination, of you at the event. Parents who allow minors to attend the event give LSU permission to make photographs, videotapes, or sound recordings, separately or in combination, of your minor child at the event. Further, you irrevocably grant Louisiana State University all rights, title, and interest you may have in the finished photographs, videotapes, or sound recordings for any purpose.
