    CCELL Requests Nominations For $1,000 SL Faculty Award

    The Center for Community Engagement, Learning, and Leadership, or CCELL, in conjunction with the Community Engagement Advisory Council and the Office of Academic Affairs, is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the Outstanding Service-Learning Faculty Award. This one-time $1,000 cash award recognizes outstanding service-learning contributions by Louisiana State University faculty. All full-time LSU faculty members, including instructors, are eligible to apply. The winner will be recognized at the annual LSU Distinguished Faculty Awards Reception on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at the Lod Cook Alumni Center.

     

    Nominees must demonstrate exceptional and sustained commitment to integrating quality service-learning activities in at least one academic course. Service-learning activities must exemplify best practices, have significant community partner input and involvement, and be approved through CCELL.

     

    Nominations may be initiated by faculty members, department chairs/heads, deans/directors, or community partners.  Nomination packets must be channeled through the nominee’s department chair/head to the dean/director for review and signature.

     

    An original and four copies of each nomination packet should be delivered to B-29 Coates no later than 4:00 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2013. Nominations received after that date will not be considered.



    Nomination packets should include the following:
     

    • Faculty Award Nomination Cover Sheet
    • Department Chair/Head and Dean/Director Nomination Approval Sheet
    • Letter of Nomination
    • Two-page Curriculum Vita, emphasizing service-learning activities and dissemination of related scholarship
    • Table that summarizes service-learning courses taught during the past five years, including dates
      taught, learning goals accomplished through service-learning, services performed, community partners involved, and number of students engaged
    • One or two page statement of exceptional contributions to service-learning scholarship, service-learning instruction, and community impact
    • Two letters of support, 1-2 pages each: one from a former student and one from a community partner

     

    Nominations will be reviewed by a committee of service-learning experts and CCELL staff. Nominations will be evaluated using the following factors:
     

    • Evidence of quality, long-term service-learning partnership
    • Adherence to best practices of service-learning
    • Quality of service-learning outcomes (for example, community impact, deliverables, or products of engaged scholarship)
    • Effectiveness of partnership with all service-learning constituencies, including students, community partners, peers, and CCELL staff
    • Quality of vita & statement of exceptional contributions
    • Strength of letter of nomination & letters of support
