Q: I am interested in becoming a SIF user. How do I begin the process?

Q: How can I gain access to the facility and building?
A: The doors to the SIF are open Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, except on University holidays. Office and laboratory access is restricted. If you have "Independent User access" to an instrument and are at the SIF for a reservation, please use the kiosk to log into iLab to start and finish your reservation. If you have "Qualified User access" to an instrument then you have access to the building via your LSU ID swipe card and have received instruction for checking out lab keys. If you would like to inquire about gaining Qualified User access to the SIF facility, please contact the Instrument Specialist and SIF Manager.
Q: How can I schedule a tour of the facility?
A: Please contact the SIF Manager. We will respond to your request within three business days.
Q: How can I make a reservation to use an instrument?
A: LSU affiliates can make instrument reservations via their iLab Solutions Management (iLab) account. In order to reserve time, a SIF Instrument Specialist must train you and update your iLab user status.

Q: How can I change my funding source for instrument usage?
A: LSU affiliates can change their funding source via their iLab account under "My Accounts".
Q: What are the accepted forms of payment for SIF services?
A: The SIF accepts LSU funding accounts, checks, and credit cards. Non-LSU users should obtain a purchase order (PO) from your home institution or industry and provide a copy of the PO to the SIF Manager for reference, prior to using instrumentation. SIF will add a 2.5% processing fee to all charges paid by credit card.
Q: Do you have a space where I can complete work before or after my instrument time?
A: There is a break room located near the front entrance. Additional workspace is available in the post-processing computer lab.
