Host On-Demand (HoD) is a Java application that provides connectivity to a TN3270 server. Installing this HoD client will allow the user to connect to TPX, IMS and TSO on the LSU Enterprise Server.
The following three requirements must be met in order for the client to successfully install:
Sun Java 1.3.1 or later is required for this client. The Java applet below will query the java version in your browser and display that version in a pink box.
Your Java Version should be displayed in pink box:
If Java version does not display or is prior to 1.3.1, please upgrade via the Sun java.com link below.
If the pink box does not appear or if the version is 1.3.0 or earlier, please go to Sun's java.com site and download the latest java.
If for some reason, you cannot run Sun Java 1.3.1 or later, but you do have a java enabled browser, return to the previous page and run the browser only version of the client which can be found under Additional Information.
For the install of Hod, Popups must be allowed for 126.96.36.199 (lsumvs.sncc.lsu.edu). A small window saying that Popups are allowed should have opened when this page was loaded. If you did not get the small window, you may have popups disabled. After the initial install, popups will only be required when new versions of HoD become available. Please allow popups for lsumvs.sncc.lsu.edu and then reload this page. The small window saying "Popups Allowed!" should appear.
If you have a firewall installed that prevents outbound connections, this client will require outbound ports 5023 and 8999. Depending on the firewall and the install options, you may be prompted to allow these ports. They should be allowed if you want to use Host On-Demand.
An example of opening ports manually for Windows firewall is below:
Access your the Windows firewall settings by going to Start - Settings - Control Panel - Security Center - Windows Firewall.
From the Exceptions tab. Add program: Program Files, Java Web Start, javaws.exe
From the Exceptions tab. Select Java Web Start, Add port, giving each port a name, assume they are TCP (5023, 8999)
