Biography

Caleb Doan is a Ph.D. student in English whose research and teaching interests include American literature (particularly of the 19th century), Transpacific and Atlantic studies, and questions of race and nation, particularly in hemispheric and global contexts. His dissertation analyzes the Pacific fiction of American authors of the long nineteenth century. He has published "From Typee's Tommo to Moby-Dick's Ishmael: Gift Exchange in the Capitalist World System" (2016) in Atlantic Studies.
