LSU Researchers Examining Power Grid Inequity in Disadvantaged NOLA Communities
October 31, 2023 BATON ROUGE, LA – Oftentimes, when a state or region’s power grid is discussed, the words innovation, resilience, reliability, etc., are mentioned. But there’s another equally important term that is the focus of a research project by LSU Electrical Engineering and LSU Sociology faculty—equity.
LSU Electrical Engineering Researcher Looks to Bolster EV Charging Infrastructure
October 23, 2023 BATON ROUGE, LA – One critique about electric vehicles (EV) is the lengthy charging times. Fast-charging stations can overcome this issue. However, installing them imposes an additional load on the electric power grid. For instance, when EV owners choose to charge their vehicle may coincide with peak load times for the grid. This can result in a strain on the grid and eventually, power outages and stability issues.
LSU, SIU Researchers Examine Better Spectrum Sharing Modeling
September 20, 2023 BATON ROUGE, LA – It may be taken for granted on a daily basis, but a worldwide increase in spectrum usage has made spectrum sharing an important economic topic. At the heart of that topic is ensuring that spectrum management mechanisms are efficient, fair, and maintain user privacy.
LSU Researchers Awarded NSF Grant to Address Optimization in Infrastructure Systems
August 29, 2023 BATON ROUGE, LA – A team of LSU researchers from electrical and computer engineering and physics was recently awarded nearly $500,000 from the National Science Foundation for a project to develop quantum computing-inspired algorithms that will address optimization problems appearing in various critical infrastructure systems, including power systems
Students Show Appreciation for Dr. Kargarian
Electrical and Computer Engineering professor Dr. Amin Kargarian has received celebration from his students for his exceptional ability as a professor. Dr. Kargarian has been with LSU since August 2015, when he began as an assistant professor. Students of his "Tools and Methods for Power System Analysis" class wanted to celebrate his accomplishments by presenting him with his own Outstanding Professor award.
ECE Faculty Members Coauthor Best Paper Candidate in Leading Conference
A team of researchers from LSU and Kent State University has been recognized for their paper at the prestigious International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium (IPDPS). This symposium, organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Technical Committee on Parallel Processing, is a leading conference in the field. With the best paper candidates representing about the top 1% of papers submitted to the conference, this is a significant achievement. The paper, titled "On Doorway Egress by Autonomous Robots," was presented during a plenary session at the conference.
