Throughout the academic year, the LSU School of Music hosts a variety of instrument days, master classes, conferences, festivals and workshops. These special events cover a wide range of disciplines and interests. Information, registration forms and other related materials can be found on this page for each event, if applicable.

  Spring 2018 

Band Conductor's Art

January 26 - 27, 2018

The Band Conductor's Art is a two-day wind conducting and teaching workshop. Participants will work with the LSU Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, and Chamber Winds on selected repertoire and receive immediate feedback from the clinicians.

There will also be a special clinic session led by Dr. James Byo, Carl Prince Matthies Memorial Professor of Music Education at the LSU School of Music.

Junior Oaks Band Festival

February 8 - 10, 2018

This weekend camp is designed for middle school band students in the 7th and 8th grades. Students will participate in full band rehearsals led by special guest conductors and receive group lessons on their instrument.

Participants will also attend a special concert by the LSU Symphonic Winds, as well as perform in a final concert on Saturday afternoon that is free and open to the public.

Louisiana Bass Festival

March 17 - 18, 2018

Louisiana Bassfest is about contribution, collaboration, inspiration and sharing our passion with all bassists.

The festival creates educational and performance opportunities for young bassists, with the hope that they are able to continually explore the beauty of bass playing.

Stately Oaks Band Festival

April 5 - 7, 2018

This weekend camp is designed for high school band students in the 9th through 12th grades. Students will participate in full band rehearsals and master classes led by the LSU music faculty and staff.

Participants will also attend a special Collage Concert, featuring the LSU Department of Bands and School of Music, as well as perform in a final concert on Saturday afternoon that is free and open to the public.

  Summer 2018

Stately Oaks Summer Camp

June 10 - 15, 2018

This is an intensive summer music camp for high school students accepted by audition only. Students will study privately on their instrument, as well as in chamber groups, with accomplished professionals from LSU and abroad. 

Any students wishing to audition for the Honors Track should prepare a solo piece of their choosing that showcases their abilities. Auditions will take place on the first day of camp. Students who are not selected for the Honors Track will automatically be placed on the Concert Band track and will not require a second audition.

Tigerland Auxiliary and Leadership Camp

June 15 - 17, 2018

TALC is geared to give high school students a great experience while gaining the skills to return to their band programs ready to go for the coming year!

We are proud to have partnered with Conn Selmer to bring you the absolute best instruction from educators Amanda Drinkwater, of the national champion program Marcus High School, and Richard Saucedo formerly with the world champion Cavaliers.

Exploring the benefits of the Alexander Technique and Body Mapping, this interactive workshop is designed for musicians (performers and teachers) who wish to reduce tension, pain, and stress while increasing efficient, coordinated body movements.
