Message from the Director
Research-driven knowledge and evidence-based practices are fundamental tools used to inform strategies that address complex and varied social problems prevalent in most disadvantaged communities. Pervasive poverty, truancy, dropout and school failure, early childhood trauma, issues surrounding illicit substance use and abuse, violence and criminality, blighted and neglected neighborhoods, lack of economic opportunity, and the lack of quality, accessible care for behavioral and mental health needs are but a few examples of the myriad social, economic, and health-related issues that can impact our society’s well being. It is essential that we confront these issues using the most current, comprehensive, research-informed methods to disseminate knowledge, to catalyze prevention and intervention efforts, and to inform policy. These efforts can improve and sustain life outcomes for individuals and the communities in which we all live.
The OSSRD team of research staff and faculty have the experience, expertise and tools necessary to not only effectively investigate complex social problems, but to also aid in program planning, design and evaluation, and to provide guidance and support to our partners across the University and community so that we can be successful collectively in our mission to advance communities and improve society. As we continue in our mission, we invite you to see how OSSRD can support you in your efforts to advance your community or organization through an interdisciplinary partnership with human science and educational professionals at Louisiana State University.
