Lisa G. Johnson, PhD, HFS, PES is an Associate Professor–Professional Practice currently serving as the Director of the Fitness Studies Concentration and Coordinator of the Health Science Minor. Johnson is active professionally, as demonstrated by her numerous presentations at international, national, regional and state conferences, including the Hawaii International Conference on Education, the annual meetings of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD). She has published over 15 articles in referred journals and served as a guest reviewer for Applied Physiology, Nutrition and Metabolism, the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education, and Human Kinetics. She also served as the primary investigator and co-coordinator of the GeauxHeart Baton Rouge, a community service grant implemented in 2009-2010 targeting underserved populations at higher risk for cardiovascular disease in the Greater Baton Rouge area. Johnson’s other research interests include physical environmental influences on physical activity and health and endocrine responses to exercise. Johnson has been on the Louisiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (LAHPERD) Board of Directors for over 12 years serving as President, Vice President of the General Division, Vice President of the Physical Education Division, and Chair of the Exercise Science and Higher Education Sections. She also served as Southern District AAHPERD Vice President for the Health Division and a member of the Southside YMCA Board of Directors. Johnson teaches Exercise Testing and Prescription (service learning course), Introduction to Health Promotion, Methods of Teaching Wellness Education and coordinates the Fitness Studies Concentration internship program. Other courses she teaches include Scientific Basis for Exercise, Laboratory Techniques in Exercise Physiology, Principles of Conditioning, Health and the Aging Process, and Community Safety Education. She also coordinates and actively promotes undergraduate research and community service efforts at local facilities such as the Leo S. Butler Community Center, BREC, YMCA and Pennington Biomedical Research Center.
