Funding Available for 2014 MLK Day Events

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said,"Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"

During the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on January 20, 2014, thousands of people across Louisiana will join together to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by turning community concerns into volunteer action. The Volunteer Louisiana Commission will promote all volunteer organization, nonprofit, school and community organization activities associated with this day of service with the goal of making it a day on rather than a day off.

If you have an event that you would like to have promoted, are in need of assistance in recruiting volunteers, or looking for partner organizations, Volunteer Louisiana would like to help.  Please contact Nicholas Auck at  nauck@crt.la.gov or (225)342-6289

If your organization is in need of funding, Volunteer Louisiana also has funding up to $5,000 for projects that are a nonprofit/government partnership.  There is no limit on the number of organizations and partner organizations can apply for additional funding, provided grants do not provide funding for the same project. Projects may include group discussions on the impact of Dr. King’s message, education, community redevelopment, etc.

The Request For Proposals is meant to be easy for the applicant to complete and only requires you to answer the questions as complete and briefly as necessary.  Applications for this project will be accepted until January 3, 2014.
